Understanding Chiropractic Tests and Treatments

Hello, my name is Sarah. I was always an avid athlete until I suffered a serious injury in college. The injury caused extensive pain through my neck and shoulders whenever I made certain movements. I had to live with the pain for years as there were no treatment options that worked for me. I finally went to see a chiropractor who helped me recover from this injury. My site will talk about the diagnostic tests and treatments used by chiropractors. I will explore the various injuries and illnesses chiropractors can treat. Thank you for coming to my website. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

3 Unusual Reasons For Lower Back Pain

Lucas Watts

If you experience lower back pain, you may believe that it is caused by a muscle strain, standing on your feet for too long, vigorous exercise, or even a bout with the flu. While these are some of the most common causes, there may be other, less common reasons for your discomfort. Here are three unusual reasons for lower back pain, and what you can do about them:

Renal Calculi

Renal calculi, also known as kidney stones, can lead to mild to severe pain in the flank area of your back as well as your lower back. This type of pain is known as colicky pain, and can be excruciating.

If you notice any type of back pain that is accompanied by pain or burning upon urination, fever, pain that radiates to your groin area, blood in your urine, or fever and chills, you may have kidney stones.

Drinking plenty of non-caffeinated fluids such as water can help reduce your risk for renal calculi, and if you already have a kidney stone, drinking water may help you pass the stone through your genitourinary tract. Once the stone has been passed, your back pain will subside.

Food Allergies

In addition to stomach pain, nausea, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea, food allergies can lead to a systemic inflammatory process. While the gastrointestinal system is most susceptible to food allergy–related inflammation, other parts of your body may be affected as well. These parts can include your muscles, bones, and joints, which may result in back pain.

If you experience back pain after eating certain foods, especially if your pain is associated with digestive symptoms, you may be experiencing an allergic reaction to something you ate. Taking an over-the-counter antihistamine can help suppress the release of histamines in your body and alleviate your symptoms. If you also experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, wheezing, or lip swelling after eating something, seek emergency medical attention right away.

High Blood Sugar

High blood sugar levels can also cause lower back pain. High blood sugar is often the result of having diabetes; however, it can also be caused by certain medications, such as corticosteroids.

Consistently high blood sugar levels can result in poor circulation, organ damage, and muscle and bone pain. If you are a diabetic, or if you have high blood sugar levels as the result of taking medication, see your doctor. Once your levels have been normalized, your back pain should subside.

If you develop back pain, make an appointment with your chiropractor and primary physician. When you work with both disciplines, you may be more likely to receive a quick diagnosis and an effective treatment plan that will help you feel better as soon as possible.
