Understanding Chiropractic Tests and Treatments

Hello, my name is Sarah. I was always an avid athlete until I suffered a serious injury in college. The injury caused extensive pain through my neck and shoulders whenever I made certain movements. I had to live with the pain for years as there were no treatment options that worked for me. I finally went to see a chiropractor who helped me recover from this injury. My site will talk about the diagnostic tests and treatments used by chiropractors. I will explore the various injuries and illnesses chiropractors can treat. Thank you for coming to my website. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Three Lesser-Known Benefits Of Chiropractic Care

Lucas Watts

Although you probably know that a chiropractor can adjust your spine and help get rid of headaches, you may not be aware of the full range of benefits you can get from regular chiropractic care. Like yoga, chiropractic adjustments can have far-reaching benefits that go  beyond improving your posture and range of motion. Here are three benefits available from chiropractic care that you may not have heard as much about.

1. Improving digestive health

Although it hasn't been scientifically proven that chiropractic care is the best treatment for specific digestive disorders, there are indications that it can help indirectly increase overall digestive health. For example, digestion can be inhibited if you have poor posture, and chiropractic care helps develop optimal posture, which means that your digestive system can get the blood flow it needs and has more room to function as it should. Slouching can also put too much pressure on the digestive organs, which proper posture can easily relieve.

2. Warding off colds and flu

Chiropractic is generally believed to have immune-boosting properties. Chiropractic adjustments focus on the musculoskeletal system, but proper spinal alignment can actually improve nervous system health and, thereby, immune system functions as well. Again, it's an indirect chain of causation, but chiropractors claim to have seen very definitive results going back almost a century. During the epidemic of 1917-1918, when the flu killed thousands of people, those who were chiropractic patients reportedly had a much lower casualty rates than others. Chiropractors had only 1/20th as many casualties among flu patients as non-chiropractic flu patients (one-quarter of one percent versus five percent). This seems to indicate that chiropractic care does have some effect, although it's not a foolproof method of escaping illness (some flu patients under chiropractic care did still die of the deadly virus).

3. Lowering blood pressure

Chiropractic care may even be able to lower high blood pressure, although studies on the subject are limited and results may vary. Try chiropractic care to see if spinal adjustments help your blood pressure, but remember that your chiropractor is not your primary care physician. If you're taking medications for high blood pressure, now is not the time to stop taking them. Talk to your physician about your options if you wish to try reducing your medications in favor of natural treatments like chiropractic care.

These three benefits show not only what a great boon chiropractic care is, but also how far-reaching the effects of spinal health (or lack thereof) can be. Your spinal health affects not only back pain, headaches, range of motion, and muscle tension, but also seemingly unrelated issues such as digestion, catching colds, and blood pressure. Be sure to see your chiropractor regularly so you can reap the full benefits of all the system improvements chiropractic care can bestow on your body.
